Radiography & Radiation Protection in Dentistry — SGA training course.

Practical training for dental nurses, principals and practice managers covering intra-oral, OPG and CBCT radiography. Online and classroom dates available across the UK. Written for the people who actually push the button and own the compliance file.

Online & classroom variants. Multi-attendee bookings welcome.

Why dental practices put staff on this course

Three patterns we hear when practice managers and principals get in touch about training. Recognise any of them?

Pattern 1

CQC compliance audit on the calendar

A CQC inspection date is set and the radiation-protection training records for the team are out of date or missing. Practices come to us to get the whole nursing team trained and certificated before the visit.

Pattern 2

New equipment commissioning

A new intra-oral, OPG or CBCT unit is going in. The clinical team need to be trained on safe operation and the practice needs evidence of competence on file before the kit goes live.

Pattern 3

Regulatory gap caught at handover

A new principal, a new practice manager, or a new compliance lead inherits an incomplete training matrix. Refresher and new-starter training closes the gap quickly without pulling the whole team off the chair-side rota.

What the course covers

Practical, dental-specific content. Designed to give nurses, clinicians and practice managers a working command of radiation safety, not abstract theory.

  1. 1 Module

    Radiation basics in dental

What dental x-ray actually does, dose to patient and operator, comparative figures across intra-oral / OPG / CBCT, and where dose-reduction effort is best spent.

  2. 2 Module

    Equipment & safe operation

Setting up, positioning, controlled-area discipline, shielding choices, day-to-day practical safety on intra-oral, OPG and CBCT units.

  3. 3 Module

    Documentation & audit

The practice's local rules, risk assessment, dose audit and what an inspector or auditor will look for. We work from real CQC-style checklists, not theory.

  4. 4 Module

    Incidents, refusals, special cases

Pregnant patients, paediatric exposures, repeat exposures, near-miss reporting, and what to do if something doesn't look right.

Choose the format that fits the practice

Same content, two delivery formats. Pick whichever works for the practice's diary.

  • Online — UK-wide
Run from anywhere with a browser. Best for whole-team roll-outs, multi-site groups and remote refreshers.
  • Classroom — UK
Hands-on day in person. Best for new starters and new-equipment commissioning, where touch-and-feel with the kit beats screen-based learning.
  • {{years_experience}} of UK radiation training
Radiation protection is what we do, not a side line of a wider H&S bundle.
  • Multi-attendee & in-house options
Whole-practice or whole-group bookings welcome. Talk to us if you'd like the course delivered on-site.
